Dream
My professional goals were inspired by the thoughts that I must never give up on my dream. Graduating from University of Novi Sad of former Yugoslavia, social-political circumstances changed where I would work but not what I would do. Graduating again, so many years later, I met this goal by accepting a teaching-coaching position at Mohave High School in Bullhead City, Arizona. Here I confirmed, participating and facilitating others to participate in sports is my life. This is what I do. On the field or in the gym, I am in my natural setting. It is where I can give my best. I believe we never stop learning, so my professional goals included keeping myself in an environment of learning. The degree program for Master of Arts in Education with a concentration on Sport Leadership and Coaching, was the next step that would take me in direction of bettering myself as an educator and coach. Because there is always change, we must always keep learning about the new discoveries. The area of concentration was attractive to me because I was seeking a deeper understanding of sports and physical activities than I had. It was clear to me that we must come up with the new strategies to face the current need of our society. There are so many overweight children and they are acquiring diseases that are caused by unhealthy life style. Physical activity is the least expensive, most effective medicine we have. When we change what we are doing we must work on the causes, not look at the person who is overweight and try to fix that, but look further and work on the root causes. Students grow through sports, gain life skills they need throughout their lives including a healthy life style, self-confidence, discipline, diligence, and teamwork. I have been a semi-pro player in soccer and volleyball and that taught me to aim high, trying to achieve challenging goals, commitment to hard work and the team. In order to go further in my field, I needed to educate myself about legal, administrative issues and get a greater understanding of sociological and physical matters as they relate to coaching student-athletes. The next step is almost completed as I am on my way to graduate from the program. As somebody who believes in life-long learning I am sure that there are more steps to be taken in front of me.

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
