Where will the road take me.....???
by Zdenko Radic
Wow! What a ride so far. There were so many road blocks, twists and turns on the road. I started my road in a small town in Bosnia (former Yugoslavia) and via Serbia, Hungary, Germany, Netherlands and Michigan made it all way to Bullhead City, Arizona. Is this my final destination........ I highly doubt. Sometimes I wish I can see where the road is going to take me next and sometimes I do not care and just follow it. One thing is for certain, I always learn something new along the road and wherever it takes me I will never stop learning.
My passion for learning started in my childhood. My parents always yelled at my siblings to pick up the book, but yelled at me to put the book down. Whenever I got the opportunity to read I would go for it. Do not get me wrong, I was not the typical bookworm as I had even greater passion for sports.
Fast forward.... thirty something years later the passion for the learning is still there and it is not going to change or fade away. However, there are so many changes in the way we learn today and there probably will be more changes tomorrow. This is the time of rapid technological change and globalization, and information technologies, online resources and courses and other media are changing and shaping the way we will all learn in the future. Well... I did not want to be left behind, so two years ago I took that road too, and applied for the graduate program through Michigan State University. If I am expected to prepare today's learners for ever-changing and demanding society than the change in the way we learn must begin within me first. Within Michigan State University's demanding graduate program I, indeed, had the opportunity to learn about technology and the ways it's changing today's learning society. I have to admit that it was not always smooth ride and there were some bumps along the road, but sooner or later it always straightens out.
The road I am currently taking is about to come to an end. I am sure that another road will open up for me soon, but in what direction will it take me......? Will I follow the same road and continue my education through Michigan State University, or will another road take me back to Europe, or..... who knows? There are so many more roads to be explored and there is always something that I can learn while taking them. Well, I will just follow one of them.
